Hand-drawn wildlife art inspired by the everyday beauty and folklore of British birds...
British bird art printsSome birds arrive with the seasons - others are simply always there...
In hedgerows, gardens, rooftops, and quiet corners - part of the background of daily life, until you begin to notice them more closely.
This collection grew from those small moments of attention...
A goldfinch on a thistle.
A wren darting through ivy.
The flash of blue from a kingfisher over water.
Each bird has its own rhythm, its own character - and its own way of being present in the landscape...
All artworks in this collection are drawn by hand using pen and coloured pencils, building up layers of detail slowly.
They begin in my sketchbook or nature journal - most often from real encounters in my garden or local surroundings - and develop into finished pieces that hold something of that original moment.
For my earlier artworks, I digitised my drawings and created new digital artworks from my hand-drawn art, while more recently I've decided to move away from the screen so my newer artworks have been completed using solely traditional techniques.
Rather than dramatic scenes, these illustrations focus on:
Adding detail to my goldfinch drawingEnjoy browsing through my collection of British birds art, inspired by the nature I love...
Inspired by the Song Thrush who sings to us on the dark and cold mornings through the winter months...
Learn about the folklore and myths of the Song Thrush here...
This Kingfisher artwork is inspired by the kingfishers we sometimes see as a glimpse of shimmering blue over streams in the fields, and once fishing in the centre of York!
Learn about the myths, magic and folklore of Kingfishers here...
The Goldfinch is very precious to me, after a sweet little goldfinch family nested right outside our bedroom window!
Read my diary of this lovely experience plus goldfinch folklore tidbits here...
Inspired by the tiny Wren who lives in my little garden, who I spy hopping through the ivy in the winter months...
One of our cheeriest little garden birds - the Blue tit is famous for his acrobatics at our garden feeders - I love to watch them in our garden!
Chaffinch artI love to see the chaffinches in our garden and in the hedgerows around our village - always singing so prettily and such colourful little things!
Blackbird artInspired by the beautiful song every dawn and dusk from the blackbirds in our street - such strikingly beautiful birds with their bright yellow bill which seems to herald Spring!
I love to hear and see the beautiful lapwing in the fields around my home with her evocative cry, and the 'lapping' of her wings as she tumbles dramatically in the sky. Here, I celebrate her as a sign of Spring...

These are birds we often see without truly seeing. But when you pause - even for a moment - they begin to feel different...
More distinct, more present...
They become more a part of our world - and that feels nice!
