Beautiful folksy art inspired by nature from the fields and hedgerows of Yorkshire - colourful birds and wildlife with a nostalgic floral touch...
These new illustrations mark the beginning of my next creative chapter - a return to traditional, hand-drawn art inspired by the birds and folklore of the British countryside, lovingly woven together with intricate elements of medieval-style ornament...
Art inspired by nature of the British countrysideEach piece begins as a careful study from my sketchbook and/or nature journal, drawn to capture both detail and spirit - I then carefully create each piece with pens, inks, and coloured pencils to make joyful artworks to help connect you with nature. These are the first of what will become a growing collection celebrating the wildlife that surrounds us here in Britain - the animals, insects and birds who share our fields, woodlands, hedgerows, gardens, and skies.

Blue TitOne of our cheeriest little garden birds - the Blue tit is famous for his acrobatics at our garden feeders - I love to watch them in our garden!
Chaffinch artI love to see the chaffinches in our garden and in the hedgerows around our village - always singing so prettily and such colourful little things!
Blackbird artInspired by the beautiful song every dawn and dusk from the blackbirds in our street - such strikingly beautiful birds with their bright yellow bill which seems to herald Spring!
Brown HareAn artwork for the beautiful brown hare that's a familiar sight in the large flat fields of East Yorkshire - here I'm inspired by the link between the hare and the magical moon!
Lapwing artI love to hear and see the beautiful lapwing in the fields around my home with her evocative cry, and the 'lapping' of her wings as she tumbles dramatically in the sky. Here, I celebrate her as a sign of Spring...
Brown HareInspired by the brown hares I often see running or 'boxing' in the fields near my home - here the hare is a symbol of Spring - an age old link to the festival of Easter...

Each illustration starts in my nature journal - observing, sketching, and noting small details from walks through the local fields and woods.
I then refine these drawings into finished pieces using pens, inks, and coloured pencils, celebrating both the accuracy of nature and the joy of my imagination.
