My Earlier Surface Pattern Designs

These surface pattern designs represent an earlier chapter of my creative journey, when I was exploring how my hand-drawn artwork could come to life on textiles, wallpapers, and homeware...

Rainbow sunflowers patternRainbow sunflowers pattern

Each pattern began with drawings or painted elements made by hand - often inspired by flowers, the stars, or the quiet beauty of my greyhound - before being developed digitally into repeating designs.

Some of these pieces are playful and experimental, others more detailed and nature-focused, but all of them reflect my love of colour, storytelling, and finding beauty in small details.

You can still find many of these designs available as printed fabrics, wallpapers, and home accessories through my partner stores listed below...

Surface Pattern Designs

A small selection of my earlier surface pattern designs - just a few of my personal favourite and most popular patterns (both old and new).

These are playful experiments that led me to explore new techniques, textures, and colour stories. Each one began with hand-drawn or painted elements before being developed into digital repeats that celebrate colour, pattern, rhythm, and nature’s small wonders.

Maximalist Botanical Patterns

Lush, layered, and full of life - this series of maximalist botanical patterns is inspired by Art Nouveau and Art Deco styles and celebrates the abundance of the natural world.

Wild leaves, vivid blooms, and intricate patterns combine in a tapestry of colour and texture, inspired by my love of botanical forms and joyful, expressive design - available as fabrics, wallpapers, homewares and accessories in three different color collections...

70s Boho Floral Patterns

A nostalgic nod to the warmth and optimism of 1970s design, these florals combine retro shapes and earthy tones with hand-drawn detail taken from my own ink paintings. Playful, relaxed, and full of personality, they capture that carefree spirit where nature meets pattern...

Celtic Knotwork Patterns

Rooted in my fascination with Celtic knotwork and symbolism, this collection reimagines ancient motifs through a modern lens. Interlaced forms and flowing lines reflect ideas of connection, continuity, and the quiet beauty of tradition - lots of different colour options - available as fabrics, wallpapers and more...

Fun & Funky Cat Patterns!

Light-hearted and full of character, these cat designs began with my own sketches and evolved into a lively, colourful series celebrating feline charm. Created just for fun, they remind me that creativity often starts with play!

I ended up loving the funky little black cat pattern so much, I made it in a few different colours.

Next, I made it for ginger cats, tabby cats, and colourful cats - see those here!

And I also made each design in a small-scale version suitable for quilting and other craft sewing projects - take a look here!

About My Journey into Surface Pattern Design

My surface pattern design journey began in 2014 with a drawing of my greyhound that I turned into a simple repeating design - unexpectedly, it became popular and opened the door to a new creative world...

greyhound collar fabricThe dog and design that started it all off!

From there, I studied textile and surface pattern design, learning to combine traditional drawing, painting, and digital tools to create more complex patterns.

These pattern collections mark a creative chapter where I explored colour, form, and repetition in new ways. While my focus has since turned toward hand-drawn illustration, I still treasure these designs for the lessons they taught me — and the joy they continue to bring to others.

My surface pattern designs remain available from my Redbubble and Spoonflower stores - as fabrics, wallpapers, bed linens, shower curtains, table cloths and other table linens, phone cases and lots more...
