Leaving Card SVG Template

I have some new job cards and a retirement card, but I wanted to make a card design that's for when a colleague in your workplace or in any voluntary organisation or other community group, class, etc, is leaving for pastures new - it might not necessarily be for a new job or retirement - people move on for all different reasons, personal and professional, so I wanted to create a leaving card template that would cover this situation...

And so that you can tell them that you're sad they're leaving and wish them good luck for their future!

I designed the card so that it's easy to make with your Cricut or similar cutting machine - you can also cut it by hand by printing the PNG file and using it as a template to cut your cardstock with a craft knife.

The card cuts flat using three A4 or Letter-sized sheets of cardstock and the standard Cricut mat (not the specialist card mat) - it also has the lines for scoring so that the card and envelope will fold in all the right places...

You can use the scoring tool on your Cricut (or other machine) or score by hand if you don't have the tool. There's more discussion about scoring, including the tool, scoring by hand, and the full instructions for setting the card template up in Cricut Design Space on this page - do take a look, even if you're using a different make of cutting machine, as the process will likely need to be followed on your own machine, too.

Once your leaving card is cut and scored, I have a craft tutorial here that will help you fold and assemble the card and envelope.

The finished card measures around 12 x 12 cm (that's approximately 4.75 4.75 inches) and the envelope comes out a little larger - that's using SVG as-is in Cricut Design Space.

The card template uses the yellow and black (very dark brown) colour combination that you can see above and below - along with a blue/teal envelope - you can, of course, use whichever colours you choose for your own leaving card project!

I chose yellow as I wanted something bright and cheerful for the card - it's photographed a little washed-out, here, compared to what it looks like in real life, for some reason. The black inner gives a really bold contrast and quite a contemporary look - but you could certainly pair it with a white inner card, dark blue, or other colours you think would look good.

For the yellow card, I've used:

  • Yellow Sizzix 'Surfacez' textured cardstock for the outer card - I used the 'Cardstock for Intricate Cuts' setting in Cricut Design Space with my Cricut Maker
  • Black Clairefontaine 'Trophee' cardstock for the inner card (160 gsm) - I used the 'Lightweight Cardstock' setting to cut it
  • Teal blue 'Dovecraft' crafting paper (120gsm) for the envelope - I used the 'Copy Paper' setting to cut it - the Dovecraft paper is coloured on one side and white the other

I also made an alternative colour version for you - you can see it just below...

Leaving card Cricut projectLeaving card Cricut project - grey and pale blue with pink envelope

This colour combination in grey and pale blue gives a simpler, more classic look - if you're using a neutral cardstock colour like grey for the outer card, you can choose from all kinds of different colours for the inner card - light or dark subtle or bright and bold, it's up to you - check there's a nice contrast between the inner and outer card so that you can read the design well, too!

When using the subtler card colours like this, a bright spot of colour for the envelope often works really well - that's why I've chosen the fun pink for the envelope - you can also opt for a plainer version if you prefer.

For the grey card, I've used:

  • Soft grey Sizzix 'Surfacez' textured cardstock for the outer card - I used the 'Cardstock for Intricate Cuts' setting
  • Pale blue 'Dovecraft' crafting paper (120gsm) for the inner card and pink for the envelope - I used the 'Copy Paper' setting to cut both - the Dovecraft paper is coloured on one side and white the other
