Greyhound SVG Design & Card Template

This greyhound design is based on a design I drew way back in 2013, inspired by my own rescue retired greyhound, Ginger. In 2014 I made the design into a fabric design, which then became a cool greyhound collar by Meggie Moo - and it's always been one of my best-selling designs...

I thought I'd remake the design as an SVG and redrew the greyhound design with a thought to making a greyhound SVG design from it - I actually made the card first (for my friend, who also loves greyhounds) and then decided to make a normal SVG design from it, too, so that you can use it for all your greyhound crafts...

I love the design itself, as just like a greyhound, it's got that lovely elegant shape to it, that makes it so Art Deco or Art Nouveau in style and just lends itself so well to the lovely swirls inside. So even if you're not particularly a greyhound lover it does make a lovely period design if you're at all inspired by Art Deco and Art Nouveau styles.

Use the file for papercrafts, vinyl crafts, stencilling, and all your cutting machine crafts - you can also cut by hand if you prefer, using the PNG files...

The greyhound SVG is actually a layered file, with just the intricate top layer (like you can see above) plus a simple background silhouette layer, that's useful if you want to make a two-coloured design, or if you just want the simplified greyhound silhouette design for some reason.

I also made a birthday card template using the greyhound design, that's perfect for greyhound lovers (like my friend). I mirrored the design so that there's two greyhounds, looking at each other, which from my original design, I know works really well)...

The card template (with the SVG used as-is in Cricut Design Space) makes a 12 x 12 cm card (around 4.75 x 4.75 inches). The envelope is also included, which is sized just a little larger.

The card is easy to make, and uses the standard Cricut sticky mat (not the specialist card mat) but you will need to set up the score lines in Cricut Design Space (or your cutting machine program of choice). If you're making with your Cricut, I have the full instructions for this here... On that page, there's also some discussion of scoring by hand and choosing a scoring tool. You may also find it helpful, even if you're not using a Cricut, to help you get everything set up correctly on your own machine.

Once your card and envelope are cut and scored and ready to go, I have a craft tutorial to help you fold and assemble both, here...

I made the greyhound birthday card template in this lovely bright pink, with a dark inner (I used black) and a pretty peach envelope (see the photo below)...

I think the pink and black is a bold, contemporary look, that looks quite fun, but also pretty - I hope you think so too!

I also made an alternative colour idea which I gave a more classic style in pastel green with a white inner card and a pink envelope - pretty, too, but with a softer and more classic feel (see below)...

For both of the cards you see here, I used my Cricut Maker and:

• Sizzix 'Surfacez' textured cardstock for both outer cards - cut with the 'Cardstock for intricate cuts' setting in Cricut Design Space

• Black Clairefontaine 'Trophee' 160 gsm cardstock for the inner card for the pink card - cut using the 'Light cardstock' setting

• White 'Eastlight Premium' 160 gsm cardstock for the inner card for the pale green card - cut using the 'Light cardstock' setting

• Craft Sensations 'designpad' Pastels 230gsm cardstock for both envelopes - cut using the 'Medium cardstock' setting
