Horse Head SVG Design

horse head svg 22Horse with flowing mane SVG design

When I was a little girl, horses were one of my favourite things - and I loved to draw them!

So this was a real treat to draw you this beautiful horse with a long flowing mane filled with flowers - I wanted to create a design that felt like a fairytale or mystical horse - wild, beautiful, and filled with the spirit of nature and bejewelled with flowers, so I put a flower on the horse's cheek and lots of little flowers threaded through the long flowing mane...

I was initially going to make a single-layer horse head SVG design, but once I made it, I started thinking it would look nice with different colours in the mane, and so I started creating a rainbow of colours in the design.

So now you can choose if you just want the single-layer version (which does include a simple background layer as well) or the multi-coloured version with 6 layers (which you can also use just as the single layer, if you want)...

Let's take a closer look at each below...

The layered version also includes a short tutorial to help you assemble the layers.

Single-layer Horse Head SVG

This is the single-layer horse head SVG - I thought I'd include it separately as I know not everyone wants a project with a lot of layers...

So this is just the main design layer plus a simple background layer...

The examples on this page are cut from Sizzix 'Surfacez' cardstock using the 'Cardstock for intricate cuts' setting on my Cricut Maker cutting machine.

You could also cut the design from vinyl or other crafting materials suitable for your cutting machine - you could also use the design to make a stencil for painting, or using etching or pyrography solutions.

Multi-colour Layered Horse Head SVG (6 Layers)

This is the version with 6 layers (and 6 colours) which makes a nice project in card, vinyl, or other crafting materials - and would be great to display in a frame as wall-art or gift to a horse-lover as a framed hand-crafted artwork...

Tutorial instructions are included just below!

I created two versions of the multi-colour horse head SVG design - so one look is rainbow bright, fun and colourful (above - these are the colours on the template) and the other is soft and mystical looking, with soft lilacs, pinks and whites (below)...

Mystical horse face SVG designSoft mystical colours give a whole different vibe!

I cut the layered designs from Sizzix 'Surfacez' cardstock using the 'Cardstock for intricate cuts' setting on my Cricut Maker cutting machine.

The horse SVG template has six layers, in six different colours, that you can see above - the template includes the bright colours, but you can choose different colours when you cut the project, if you want - I've also created a softer and more mystical version that you can see on this page which you might prefer - or you might like to get creative with your own colour choices...

I'll show you below how to layer up the design (using cardstock) - it's super easy! You just need all your cut pieces and some glue!

Layered Horse Design Craft Tutorial

  • Let's start with all six layers cut and ready to go, like in the image above. If you like, you can take a moment to put them in order (check the rainbow around the edge to make sure you got it right), but if you're using the same colours as me, I'll show you what to stick where as we go...
  • I thought it was easiest to start from the top and work down - so I'm starting with the top layer, the most detailed one with the thinnest circle. Add some paper glue to the BACK of the piece, protecting your surface, and being careful not to get too much on the front side as you go - see the image below...
Add glue to the back of the top layerCarefully add paper glue to the back of the top layer
  • We're then going to glue this layer down onto the layer below - this is the green layer, so get this ready too - see the image below...
We'll glue it to the green layerWe'll glue it onto the second layer down - this green layer
  • As you stick the top layer down onto the green layer beneath, align the front of the horse itself, his face, nose, and neck - then the rest will slot into place quite easily - when you're happy it's lined up nicely, press to stick down - see the image below.
  • You might also want to take a moment now to carefully wipe away any glue that's got onto the front of your project.

  • Now, add glue to the back of the green layer (both layers together) - if you've used a tissue like this to protect your surface, make sure that there's no old glue still sticky on it before you lay down your piece (yes, you can tell I didn't do this!) - or wipe your surface before laying each piece down to glue - see the image below...
Add glue to the back of the green cardstockAdd glue to the back of the green layer - mind you don't get glue on the front of the piece while you're doing this!
  • Now, glue this onto the pink layer, aligning the front portion of the horse again, just like you did before - see the image below.
  • Remember to wipe away any excess glue from the front of the horse again...

  • This time, add glue to the back of the pink layer - checking your surface for stray sticky glue as you go - see the image below...

  • Now, glue this down onto the yellow layer, once again wiping away any excess glue - see the image below...

  • Then, glue this all down onto the peach-coloured layer - see the image below...

  • And glue onto the blue layer - and your beautiful horse is done!

  • Below, you can see the other colour combination I tried for the layered horse head SVG - I chose 'mystical' colours to give the horse a magical, fairytale feel - lilac, blues, soft greens, pink and white.

How to Buy Both Files

Horse head papercut templatesBeautiful horse head in circle SVG template - layered or single layer (with background)

I've got the links to both files below - the basic design is the same for both, it's just how many layers you want - if you know that you definitely only want the single layer (main design) which includes a simple background layer, go for the single-layer version...

If you get the layered version, you'll still get the single-layer main design plus background layer (the same as the 'single-layer' version) - but you'll also get four more layers inbetween so that you can make the multi-colour version now or in the future.

Please make sure that you double-check which version you're getting - due to the digital nature of downloadable files, I am unable to refund you if you realise that you ordered the wrong one and have already downloaded the files.
