Colourful modern pet portraits to inspire you - here I share some pet art ideas to showcase my artistic style and hopefully to inspire you to commission your own custom pet portrait from me...

My artistic style is colourful, modern and detailed.

I love to show the character of the pets I draw and I love to add in lots of colour and additional background elements to do this.

I believe that adding these decorative elements to your pet portrait really make it beautiful, personal and and meaningful.

It allows your portrait to be about you, your pet, and your relationship, your memories and your shared bond...

...as well as being a beautiful artwork that's about more than 'just' your pet, but about you as well.

For me, adding the decorative background makes the artwork more complete...

The setting for your pet portrait really makes the portrait come alive with different layers of personality and meaning...

...and I absolutely love to create these special pieces, filled with flowers, nature, colours, patterns, love and joy.

I hope that you will agree with me on the extra meaning and joy that comes from the decorative background... but I know that sometimes it's not the right choice for you and your pet and I do also love the simplicity and boldness that a plain background can bring to your pet portrait...

It's not always easy to decide, so I hope that the information on this page can help you to make your decision...

Please, don't worry about 'what' you'd like, or 'what colour' you'd like, whether you'd like a decorative or plain background to your pet portrait - as the artist, it's my job to use the information you give me (and I will ask you questions too) to create the setting for your pet portrait for you, that both looks beautiful and reflects your shared bond with your pet...

Of course, if you do have lots of ideas after looking through this page, they're very welcome too!

Deciding on a Plain or Decorative Background

One of the first things to decide on will be whether you want to have a plain or decorative background to your pet portrait.

It's very much a personal choice, so I just wanted to show you a few examples of each so that you can better see what's involved in each option...

Decorative Backgrounds

Decorative backgrounds can often have meaning for the pet owner, such as a special flower with a personal attachment, special memory, or perhaps with a meaning from the Language of Flowers.

This could be a specific flower you choose to have included or you can tell me some stories about your pet and I can decide on some suitable flowers or ideas to create the decorative background for you. Sometimes, you might just want something pretty, a field or some flowers.

The colour scheme can be up to you, too, to go with a particular room scheme or personal preference.

Plain Backgrounds

Plain backgrounds aren't perfectly flat and plain - they have subtle blends of colour to add interest to your artwork (which are created from hand-painted fabric scanned into the computer).

Plain background pet portraits can have a lot of impact and it really puts the focus on your pet and makes sure they're the star of the show.

You can choose the exact background colour if you want or leave it completely up to me. I can work with your colour preferences or a room colour scheme.

Sometimes neutrals are nice as your pet portrait can continue to adorn your wall even through several colour scheme changes (and are often a good idea if you're commissioning the pet portrait as a gift and you're not sure of someone's tastes!).

If you're not sure, I can do a few background colour options for you to choose from, or tweak one until it's just the right shade.

If you'd like one or two extra elements added, perhaps a single flower, or some meaningful words as part of the background, these can be quoted for on a bespoke basis.

Want a decorative background but not sure what?

If you know just what you'd like included, that's great - but if you know you'd like something for the decorative background, but you've no idea what, don't worry...

Just tell me about your pet and it's my job as an artist to put that into a visual representation for you.

That's why I love to find out about you and your pet, what your pet means to you, and what you love about your pet...

So that I can make it into the perfect artwork for you!

If you're feeling inspired by my colourful pet portraits and would like to find out more about commissioning your own pet portrait you can get more details about the process and prices for each option here...
