Color Inspiration

Choosing color for a design can be a really fun part of the process, but sometimes the sheer amount of color choice available is just a little bit overwhelming, so here's a few tips I've learned over the past year to help...

Of course, if the design is of flowers, I find the the natural color of the flower is a great place to start, but for more abstract designs, or ones where you don't necessarily want the colors to look true to life, you can start by picking colors out of a favorite photo...

Here are some I tried from some of my own holiday snaps...

Venice Reflections

Inspired by Valletta waterfront in Malta (on our honeymoon!)

One of the most beautiful and remote beaches I've ever been too - Jura in Scotland

I like these color combinations where there is a contrast between cool blues and warm oranges, golds, reds or pinks - it makes for an interesting color scheme...

Usually I will need to tweak the colors slightly, when using them in one of my designs, changing the tone, or adding additional colors, to make them work better in the context of my design.

I've not actually used any of these in a design yet... but maybe soon ;)
