I'm delighted that my artwork 'Remembering' has been selected to be included in the ArtWaves Festival 2016 exhibition at Bridlington Spa.

The festival takes place over 2 days between 14th and 15th May (10am - 4.30 pm each day), and is filled with lots of artistic inspiration, stalls, artist demonstrations, fun workshops and interesting talks and activities for all.

Exhibition by Kaffe Fassett & The Quilters' Guild Collection

color, inspiration, patterns, exhibitionsCharlotte BrownComment

At the weekend I was lucky enough to get to a wonderful, and very colourful, exhibition in my local city by the very talented designer and quilter, Kaffe Fassett, in association with The Quilters' Guild Collection...

Visiting the 'Ancestral Gifts' exhibition at the Quilt Museum & Gallery in York UK

I have been a big fan of Kaffe Fassett's design work ever since I was a little girl, captivated by the colour combinations. I went to see the very colourful Kaffe Fassett exhibition at the American Museum in Bath while I was on holiday, last year, so it was a real thrill for me to get to see his work again, just down the road from home...

The exhibition at the Quilt Museum in York, is called 'Ancestral Gifts' and showcases 15 historic quilts from the Quilters' Guild Collection, selected by Kaffe Fassett, together with the new quilt he has designed from each of these, in his own design fabrics.

Colour & design inspiration at the Quilt Museum in York

It was very interesting to see how he interpreted each design in his own way, and to look at the ways the designs were similar to, and also different from, the historic originals...

Of course, the stunning colours of the Kaffe Fassett fabrics were in plentiful supply, and this certainly provided a contemporary touch to the traditional inspirations...

An awesome exhibition - and wonderful to see so many colourful pieces, and their historic inspirations, all gathered together in one building - I went around several times trying to pick a favourite, but couldn't narrow it down! I highly recommend a visit if you get the chance...

Ancestral Gifts runs at the Quilt Museum in York (UK) until 5th September 2015

The Quilt Museum is then taking the exhibition  on tour to the USA, under the name 'Blanket Statements' and will be visiting:

International Quilt Festival, Houston - 29th October to 1st November 2015

Michener Museum, Doylestown, PA - 14th November 2015 to 21st February 2016

San Jose Quilt Museum - March 2016, exact dates to be announced

The exhibition also gathers together inspirational pieces, and some original sketches and design artwork
